Good News For MSU QB Brian Lewerke
The #5 Michigan State Spartans enter the 2018 campaign with high expectations. With the Spartans in a position to compete for another Big Ten title under Mark Dantonio and a possible second trip to the College Football Playoffs, things are bright.
One of the biggest reasons is QB Brian Lewerke. After a stellar 2017 season in which Lewerke emerged as one of the nation’s top QB’s, he is poised for what some think could be an epic junior season.
Lewerke threw for 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions during his redshirt sophomore season. He also completed 59 percent of his passes and threw for 2,793 yards. What made Lewerke the threat that he was, didn’t just come with his arm. The young man ran for 559 yards and scored five touchdowns with his feet.
Spartan Nation has reported several times that Lewerke took to heart the criticisms of his play by scouts and his coaches and had perhaps the greatest offseason of any Spartan. With copious amounts of effort on improving his accuracy and footwork, Lewerke could be setting himself up for an early jump to the NFL with a superior 2018.
Some recent stories on the nation’s elite Big Ten and national QB’s speak highly of the respect that Lewerke has earned. Athlon Sports listed Lewerke as the 2nd best QB in the Big Ten and Sporting News has him rated the eighth best QB in the nation.
