Michigan State to play night game vs. traditional Big Ten foe

The Spartans will play "under the lights" on the road in November...

Michigan State has its first official kickoff time for the 2023 college football season, as the Big Ten Conference announced Monday the Spartans' road trip to Columbus on Nov. 11 will be a prime time event.

Michigan State and Ohio State will kick off at 7:30 p.m. (EST) with NBC carrying the broadcast.

This will be the fourth-ever night game between the Spartans and Buckeyes, with Ohio State holding a 2-1 edge in the previous three. The first came on Dec. 7, 2013 in Indianapolis, when Michigan State defeated the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten Championship.

Both other night games were played during the regular season. Ohio State knocked off the Spartans, 49-37, in East Lansing on Nov. 8, 2014. The Buckeyes also defeated MSU, 34-10, in Columbus on Oct. 5, 2019.

When they travel to Ohio Stadium this fall, Michigan State will seek its first win over the Buckeyes since a 17-14 win in Columbus on Nov. 21, 2015. That victory in 'the Horseshoe' propelled the Spartans to their third Big Ten title of the Mark Dantonio era.

MSU has lost seven consecutive games to Ohio State, including each of the first three of the Mel Tucker era. Since 2020, the Spartans have been outscored 157-39 in their last three meetings against the Buckeyes, an average margin of defeat of 39.3 points per game.
