MSU Recruiting: Top O-Line Targets Puts Spartans in Final 3

Michigan State is a finalist for one of the top offensive lineman in the country...

With anticipation for Michigan State Football's 2023 season reaching a fever pitch over the past three and a half weeks, recruiting has taken a bit of a back seat.

However, the Spartans continue to attack the trail with vigor and the fruits of there labor have not gone unnoticed. Just hours after four-star Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea running back Jason Brown included MSU in his 'Top 3', another of Michigan State's top 2024 targets followed suit.

Four-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei interior offensive lineman DeAndre Carter, the top overall target for MSU offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic, named MSU alongside Auburn and Texas in his 'Top 3' late Thursday night. The West Coast native will announce his commitment on Sept. 3.

Carter is considered the No. 101 overall prospect, No. 3 interior offensive lineman and No. 6 player from the state of California in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. Auburn is the perceived favorite to land Carter, as four "crystal ball" predictions have been placed in favor of the Tigers by 247's recruiting analysts.

With that said, if Michigan State were to overtake Auburn and land Carter's commitment on Sept. 3, he would be the highest-ranked prospect in the Spartans' 2024 class. With just 12 commits currently, Michigan State's 2024 class is ranked No. 52 in the country and No. 15 in the Big Ten, leading only Washington, Indiana and Northwestern in the cycle.
