Former Michigan State QB Noah Kim Chooses Transfer Destination

After starting five games for the Spartans in 2023, quarterback Noah Kim will continue his college career closer to home...

The second of Michigan State's three scholarship quarterbacks who entered the transfer portal this offseason has found a new home.

One day after freshman backup Sam Leavitt announced his commitment to Arizona State out of the portal, former MSU starter Noah Kim has revealed via social media that he'll be continuing his collegiate career at Coastal Carolina.

A native of Virginia, Kim was part of former MSU head coach Mark Dantonio's final recruiting class in East Lansing. Redshirting his first season in 2020, Kim did not see the field until 2022 when he backed up then-starting quarterback Payton Thorne. That season, Kim threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns while completing 14-of-19 pass attempts across four games played.

After an open, spring quarterback competition, Thorne transferred to Auburn and Kim won the starting job over redshirt freshman Katin Houser and Leavitt. Kim started each of the first five games for Michigan State this past season, leading the Spartans to victories over Central Michigan and Richmond in the first two weeks. In those victories, Kim threw for 571 yards and five touchdowns while completing 36-of-53 pass attempts (67.9%) without an interception.

After that hot start, however, Kim struggled against Power 5 conference opponents. In games against Washington, Maryland and Iowa, Kim completion percentage dropped to 51.4% (55-of-107) and he threw just one touchdown pass against six interceptions. For his Michigan State career, Kim has completed 105-of-179 attempts (58.6%) for 1,264 passing yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He added 58 rushing yards on 28 carries.

Kim was benched in favor of Houser in Week 7 against Rutgers coming out of MSU's bye week, and Houser started the final seven games for the Spartans. Houser also entered the transfer portal this offseason, but has not yet announced a transfer destination.
