The Spartan Nation Welcomes Dion Sims

The Spartans have been looking to add the finishing touches on their 2009 recruiting class for some time now and as of tonight they have taken a major step forward. Tight End prospect Dion Sims has officially committed to play his college ball at Michigan State University.

Sims has flirted with Miami (FL) and the University of Michigan before pledging his services to MSU. The Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s product had thought basketball would also be a part of his college future and it may have been the final straw that got him to MSU.

Sims will have to compete with Clemson transfer Brian Linthicum and incumbent starter Charlie Gantt for playing time, but his impact could be felt early because of his versatility as a receiver.

Sims makes the 10th 4-star recruit for MSU in the 2009 class and sets a precedent for classes to come. MSU’s offense will be young next year and while Sims may add inexperience at the college level he adds a versatile prospect to an offense that has been known to use trick plays involving versatile players like Keshawn Martin.

Sims commitment keeps open a multi-sport pipeline that has brought MSU players like Kalin Lucas and could potentially bring talented players in the future. Sims adds a nice player to the offensive side of the ball and will make for a nice target for incoming Andrew Maxwell.

Sims has played on both sides of the ball at OLSM but is more than likely going to be a Tight End at the college level. Sims has been a sought after commodity for some time and the Spartan staff has to happy they landed such a talented prospect.
