MHSAA Boys Basketball Report - January 22, 2014

Another week has come and gone, and now it’s time for the Spartan Nation high school basketball report! The teams are starting to hit stride and have played a lot of games in January. The District action begins on March 3rd. That means there is a month and a week or so to hit up the local gym and catch a boys or girls game. Once Districts begin, most teams do not get to play on their home court. Let’s take a look at the action from the past week.

Century Club Part 2

Kalamazoo Central 101 Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills 69

It was the highest scoring game of the season for Kzoo Central. Leading the way for the Maroon Giants was Hunter Hale with 21 points. Orlando Little scored 17 and Devon Daniels scored 12. On the losing side, Myles Miller tied Hunter Hale with 21 points. Anthony Macintosh scored 13. This 9-1 start is the best start for Kalamazoo Central since 2010/11.

Blowout of the Week

Flint Hamady 79 Webberville 4 (75 points)

Coach Kenyada Dent wanted his team to play good man to man defense. Check. All coaches want their players to get rebounds and make their shots. Check. It was an old fashion whipping of Webberville. Jamil Demps scored 13 to lead Hamady. He also had five steals and five assists. Demar Ford, Jalen Fykes, Roderick Green, Charlie Harris, and Alex Williams all scored eight points. Ford, Fykes, and Green each came away with six rebounds while Harris had five steals. In the losing effort, Ty Adiar scored three points while Tim Hergenreder scored one.

Low Score of the Week

Waterford Kettering 29 White Lake Lakeland 18 (47 points)

Jon Scaber and Noah Stinson scored 10 points each to lead Kettering. No stats could be found for White Lake Lakeland.

High Score of the Week

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian 91 Detroit Westside Christian 77 (168 points)

In the losing effort, D’Juan Williams scored 25 points, grabbed six rebounds, tossed four assists, and stole three balls. DeShawn Brocks scored 22 points, tossed three assists, and stole five balls. I couldn’t find any statistics for Auburn Hills Oakland Christian.
