I mentioned yesterday that with a purge underway in Oakland to get rid of any players older than their head coach, (and that would include at least two ball boys and a rookie) that we may very well see Warren Sapp become available.

I have no doubts that Marinelli wants him and that he would like to be a Lion. You can go back to see what I wrote but now another named has surfaced. Simeon Rice the all world DE of the Bucs, and also an admitted protégé of Marinelli has failed a physical in Tampa and will become available.

I am not worried about him being in top physical shape, and now the attention has to turn to the Lions. With the Lions cutting Bill Swancutt, there is a place open on the roster for a DE, and to add one like Sapp that was one of the best and understands the entire system is huge. He wouldn’t have to play every down and thus when he was in it would be maximum effort on every play.

Who would have thought that the Lions which are already assembling one of the best DL’s in the business could have added these two sold out disciples of Marinelli as depth and teachers. I am in no way saying that either is done.

I am saying that unless Rice has an injury worse than what I am hearing, Detroit is in the hunt and if Sapp gets cut he will be also. These are good things to be excited about Detroit Lions nation!
