3-Star DLBrad Fitzgibbon Set to Visit Jonathan Smith and Michigan State Spartan Football

Michigan State Spartan Football has scheduled an official visit with one of the better prospects on their class of 2025 recruiting trail, DL Brad Fitzgibbon

Michigan State Spartan football Coach John Smith has scheduled an on-campus visit with one of the best players on their 2025 recruiting trail. The Spartans have loaded up many visits with and offered scholarships to players ranked with three stars or less, with the plan of developing their signees over time. If three-star defensive lineman Brad Fitzgibbon commits to MSU after his recently scheduled visit, this would be the case.

Fitzgibbon is a native of Chicago, Ill. In their 2025 composite rankings, 247Sports ranks him as the No. 77 defensive lineman. Fitzgibbon would be one of the Spartans’ better signings, as 247Sports ranks him as the 760th-best  overall prospect in the 2025 class.

Signing Fitzgibbon would immediately bolster the Spartans' defensive line and their class of 2025 recruiting haul. He is among the most talented players in the Spartans' 2025 recruiting class, and his signing with the Spartans could significantly help attract other gifted players to East Lansing. The Big Ten is a top-heavy conference. With continued additions such as Fitzgibbon, the Spartans could gradually return to contention in the conference over the next few years.

Michigan State is among the notable football programs offering Fitzgibbon a scholarship. The Spartans join roughly 20 other programs, including Kansas State, Wisconsin, Kansas, Iowa State, and Arizona State.

247Sports reports Fitzgibbon also has official visits lined up with Arizona State and Kansas. On Monday, Brad Fitzgibbon announced his official visit to Michigan State on May 31. It could be one of the more important visits the Spartans have this offseason.

MSU, however, could have a slight advantage, as they’re closer to home for Fitzgibbon than most other schools that have offered him a scholarship, which is usually somewhat of a factor in where recruits sign. Michigan State’s recruiting success will hinge on signing the three-star athletes they’ve decided to prioritize, such as Fitzgibbon.

While their plan of coaching unranked and low-ranked players with high potential is admirable, that plan only works if you have enough three—and four-star athletes to compete in the immediate future. It doesn’t seem that MSU currently does, which heightens their need to convert on the offers they're extending to three-star players, as most four-star players are likely going elsewhere.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spartan Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
