Misiewicz Named Big Ten Women's Soccer Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State junior midfielder Sadie Misiewicz has been named Big Ten Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league Tuesday.

Misiewicz started the 2018 season strong, scoring three goals in two games over the Spartans opening weekend that included 2-0 victories over both Southern Utah and Boston University. She scored her first-career goal in the 22nd minute of MSU's season opener against the Terriers, and followed with a second goal that came after chasing down a ball headed out of bounds, and beating a defender and the goalkeeper 1v1.

The third goal of the weekend came in the 11th minute of Sunday's game against BU after Misiewicz put away a deflected ball off a Spartan corner kick.

All four of Misiewicz's shots in the first two games came on goal, and she played 159 of a possible 180 minutes.

Kayla Sharples (Northwestern) was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, while Clair Graves (Iowa) was tabbed as the Goalkeeper of the Week, and forward Makena Silber (Illinois) was named Freshman of the Week.

This is the 14th time a Michigan State women's soccer player has won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since the conference split offensive/defensive weekly honors in 2001. It's the first time a Spartan has been honored since forward Jamie Cheslik on Oct. 25, 2016.

The Spartans are back in action Thursday at DeMartin Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff against Green Bay.
