Spartan Taylor Alton Selected to 2012 State Farm Women’s College 3-Point Contest

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Senior Taylor Alton will represent the Michigan State women’s basketball program next week at the 2012 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, held Thursday, March 29 in New Orleans. The 24th annual event will air at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Alton is the first Spartan to compete in the women’s college 3-point contest since Lindsay Bowen won the event in 2006.

Alton finished her senior season third on the team in scoring with a career high 7.8 points per game. She led the Spartans and was fifth in the Big Ten with 64 3-pointers, while knocking down a team-best 36.6% from behind the arc, good for seventh in the conference. Alton finished her career eighth on the MSU career 3-pointers list with 116 and is fourth with a career percentage of 35.6%.

The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will take place at Tulane University’s Fogelman Arena in New Orleans. The event will showcase the dunking and sharp-shooting talents of 24 of the nation’s top college basketball seniors. Individual events include the State Farm Women’s 3-Point Contest, Hampton Hotels Men’s 3-Point Contest, Pure Protein Battle of the Champions and Denny’s Slam Dunk Contest.

The final roster for the 2012 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will be available soon. Some of the other participants include: Miles Plumlee (Duke), Marcus Denmon (Missouri), John Shurna (Northwestern) and Brittany Rayburn (Purdue).
