Spartan Nation Mailbag: Michigan State Football

Spartan Nation publisher Hondo S. Carpenter, Sr. is here to answer all your questions regarding Michigan State football.

East Lansing, MI. -- The Michigan State Spartans got hammered hard in Iowa City, but all is not lost. Far from it, in fact. So let's get right to this week's questions:

Hondo, is it bad that I am not upset with the loss to Iowa. We got a win over Michigan, and that makes my season. If this were Mel (Tucker's) fifth year, I would get angry.

Terry Saxton

I agree with you. With the ridiculous timing of the Mark Dantonio retirement and losing spring ball, that is fair. This is a tough rebuild. That is why so many people turned it down prior and Mel and why the Spartans had to pay so much to finally get him. Regardless of his salary, Mel Tucker deserves a fair shot. It is not his fault MSU had to overpay; that is on MSU for letting Mark Dantonio's tenure end the way it did.

Hondo, any shot for MSU to sneak into a bowl game? Even if a bunch of schools cancel games because of COVID-19? Bryan G.

It is a long, very long shot like one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

Hondo, is our offensive line this bad, or the coaching this bad? Valerie Hurst

Mark Dantonio wouldn't change out his offensive line coach. It killed Michigan State for years in recruiting. There is some talent there, but I would say that probably 65% of the MAC school have better offensive lines. There is some talent there, but they are just buried behind the proverbial eight-ball with no spring.

Hondo, I heard you on a radio show. Did I hear you say you heard from your UM people that the Wolverine and Jim Harbaugh marriage is going south, and they told you they didn't think he would return?

A meltdown in Ann Arbor, coupled with our win, covers a multitude of my Spartan pain. Thanks for the hard work. Seth K.

Yes, I did say that, and I hear that. I think all of the Spartan Nation feels for Jim.

He deserves another six years to get his recruits in and time to rebuild. #KeepJimmyInAA
