In a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, Oregon State outside linebacker Mason Tufaga announced that he would be stepping away from football

A former four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Tufaga spent two seasons at Utah before transferring to Oregon State prior to last season. He never appeared in a game in college.

A product of Honolulu's St. Louis High School, Mason is the brother of Isaiah Tufaga, who previously played at Oregon State.

"Stepping away from football has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make...Thank you Coach Whittingham, Coach Smith, and Coach Bray for taking me in and believing in me. Being able to do what I love while getting a free education is a blessing I’ll never take for granted," Tufaga wrote on Instagram.

Oregon State's 2024 season is set to begin on August 31 when the Beavers host Idaho State.
