WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue's Jahaad Proctor had a tremendous debut for the Boilermakers on Wednesday night, He scored 26 points in Purdue's season-opening win against Green Bay.

Proctor, who graduated from High Point in North Carolina, transferred to Purdue for his final season and was immediately eligible. He was aggressive in attacking the basket, and he's the first focus in our "3 Things I Liked" segment that will follow each Boilermakers basketball game this season.

Here's what else we'll touch on in our first VIDEO of the season:

  • Purdue's defense, which was great early, limiting Green Bay to just 12 points in the first 15 minutes of the game.
  • A funny moment for 7-foot-3 center Matt Haarms, who came out of his shoe but still came downcourt and made a 3-pointer.

For the Boilermakers, it was a good start. Ranked No. 23 in the country in the Associated Press preseason basketball poll, Purdue will test itself often in the nonconference schedule, and Green Bay threw a lot at them Wednesday night.

The Phoenix kept scratching and clawing in the second half, and got it to 10 on a couple of occasions, but couldn't get any closer. Green Bay is coached by former Purdue player Linc Darner. He a teammate of current Purdue coach Matt Painter for a few years. Darner got a nice welcome back from the Purdue faithful during pregame introductions.

Purdue is back in Mackey Arena on Saturday night. The Boilermakers will play the Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. ET
