WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind — Purdue takes on TCU Saturday night under the lights at Ross-Ade Stadium in its final nonconference game of the season (7:30 p.m. ET. TV: Big Ten Network).

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm talked about his team and the upcoming matchup during his Wednesday evening radio show live from the Stacked Pickle on campus.

Here are the three of the biggest takeaways from the show:

Takeaway No. 1: Bailey lost for the year

Brohm confirmed that defensive captain and senior linebacker Markus Bailey is out for the season after suffering a knee injury during Tuesday’s practice.

“It’s an unfortunate injury to a terrific young man,” Brohm said. “He’s been our best player on defense for maybe the past couple of years. He’s just a tremendous asset for us, a great leader, and was getting ready to have a great year.”

Takeaway No. 2: Neal making progress

Brohm gave an update on senior defensive tackle Lorenzo Neal, who is rehabbing an ACL tear suffered last season. The team is hopeful that Neal will return shortly after Purdue’s by week, either against Minnesota or Penn State.

“We’re optimistic sometime in the near future he’ll get back,” Brohm said. “We want him to be fully healed, confident and ready to go.”

Takeaway No. 3: Young receivers coming along

Brohm has been impressed with the development that the young receivers on the team have shown so far this season, most notably freshman David Bell and Amad Anderson. He expects them to be big contributors on offense the more comfortable they get with the team.

“We feel good about the young talent, it’s just a matter of gaining experience, gaining confidence and those guys trying to play as efficient as they can,” Brohm said.
