St. John’s Basketball Dates Against UConn Revealed

When will the St. John's Red Storm and UConn Huskies be playing this season?

The St. John’s Red Storm will be looking to win their third consecutive Big East regular-season and tournament title during the 2026-27 season.

Standing in the way of them accomplishing that feat will likely be the UConn Huskies. Those two programs look to be the cream of the crop in the conference and are must-see television whenever they face off against each other.

When are those matchups going to occur? As shared by college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein on X, the dates have been revealed for when the Big East rivals will be going at it on the hardwood.

The first regular-season matchup will occur on Friday, Jan. 29th, at Madison Square Garden. St. John’s will then head on the road to Storrs to face UConn on their home court on Tuesday, March 2nd, in what will likely be one of the Red Storm’s final games before the conference tournament begins.

Both matchups are going to draw a lot of attention from college basketball fans. There will almost assuredly be major Big East implications for both of them, with St. John’s and the Huskies projected to battle it out for first place once again.

Last year, the edge went to the Red Storm in head-to-head matchups despite UConn getting a No. 3 seed and St. John’s being a No. 5 seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

The Red Storm won the first meeting 81-72 at MSG when the Huskies were ranked No. 3 in the country. UConn exacted some revenge a few weeks later, destroying St. John’s 72-40 as the No. 6-ranked team in the nation.

A rubber match occurred in the Big East tournament championship game, where the Red Storm dominantly returned the favor. They won 72-52 after beating the Providence Friars by 13 and Seton Hall Pirates by 10 to get there.

Under head coach Rick Pitino, St. John’s is now 4-4 against their biggest competition in the Big East. After losing all three matchups against Dan Hurley and the Huskies during his first season at the helm in 2023-24, Pitino and the Red Storm have had their number, winning four out of five games. They have each defeated each other once in a Big East tournament game as well.

Slowly but surely, the St. John’s men’s basketball 2026-27 schedule is being rolled out. Right now, the only other games that are confirmed for the Red Storm are against the Oregon Ducks on Nov. 24 in their first game of the Players Era Festival and two non-conference games in December.

The Arizona Wildcats are coming to New York on Dec. 5, and a week later, on Dec. 12, St. John’s is traveling south to play against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Coleman Coliseum.
