St. John’s Basketball Transfer Oziyah Sellers Has Committed to New Team

Oziyah Sellers has revealed which program he has chosen in the transfer portal.

The St. John’s Red Storm had to replace a lot of production from their 2025-26 team that reached the Sweet 16, where they were beaten by the Duke Blue Devils.

Some of those players, such as Zuby Ejiofor and Dillon Mitchell, have begun their professional careers in the NBA. Others, such as Joson Sanon and Dylan Darling, hit the transfer portal for new opportunities in college basketball.

One player who was in limbo was Oziyah Sellers. With the new 5-in-5 eligibility rules being put into place, there is a chance that he could play another season of basketball in the NCAA, and he is looking to take full advantage of that.

It won’t be with the Red Storm, as he entered the transfer portal. But he is landing with a coaching staff he knows well, committing to Andy Enfield and the SMU Mustangs, as shared by insider Jon Rothstein on X.

Sellers originally committed to play for Enfield out of high school when he was the head coach of the USC Trojans. He spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career with USC before entering the transfer portal when Enfield decided to leave the Trojans for the Mustangs after the 2023-24 season.

That led to Sellers landing with the Stanford Cardinal, where he had a breakout 2024-25 campaign. A starter for the first time in his career, he averaged 13.7 points on a strong .451/.401/.897 shooting split. He added 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 33.1 minutes per game.

St. John’s and head coach Rick Pitino came calling after he hit the transfer portal for a second time in as many years. While his scoring and efficiency took a hit, averaging 10.3 points on .429/.351/.859 shooting split, his rebounding and assist percentages improved.

Sellers is seeking a fifth year of eligibility.

He played for Andy Enfield at USC earlier in his career.

Sellers had a career-best 10.0% assist rate and a 6.7% turnover rate, showing improvements in his decision-making and ball-handling. Most importantly, he became more of a two-way player, producing a 2.5 Defensive Box Plus/Minus, completely buying in under Pitino.

He will now have to wait to see if he can gain eligibility for a fifth year in college basketball. It is a similar situation that St. John’s is waiting to see play out with multiple players on their roster in the same boat.

Keyshawn Hall and Reed Bailey are both seeking a fifth year of eligibility. Babacar Sane and Quinn Ellis are international players hoping to receive clearance as well to suit up for the Red Storm in the 2026-27 season.
