Ten Different Goal Scorers Lead Syracuse Lacrosse to Victory Over Colgate

The Orange blew out its in-state rivals.

Syracuse men's lacrosse picked up their second win of the season against Colgate this evening in the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange defeated the Raiders 18-10. Joey Spallina led the team with nine points (4g, 5a).

Both Owen Hiltz and Michael Leo had hat tricks. Hiltz contributed 6 points (3g, 3a) and Leo added in four (3g, 1a). Will Mark played a full 60 minutes in the cage with 11 saves and three caused turnovers.

Fifth year transfer Christian Mule also put up three points (1g, 2a) along with three points from sophomore Finn Thomson (2g, 1a). Rice Carter, Jake Stevens, and Tucker Kellogg each contributed a goal as well.

Syracuse had a quick turnaround as they picked up their first win against Vermont on Saturday. The Orange had a short amount of time to prepare for Colgate as the raiders were coming off a big upset.

Colgate kicked off ranked #4 Penn State in their first game of the season. The Raiders fought another tough battle against the Orange but they fell short.

Colgate was on fire for the second quarter as they put up four goals and held Syracuse to two. The Raiders had a lot of momentum and outshined the Orange in the second quarter.

Going into halftime, after a sloppy second quarter, Gary Gait, Head Coach told the team to play like the Orange do.

“Settle down, take care of the ball, and we just started pressing a bit, " said Gait. “They had a bit of a run in that second quarter but we got caught up in their emotion. They were playing with a lot of emotion, getting physical, chirping, doing all that stuff, and we started responding to it. The message was hey be Syracuse Orange, play like the orange do.”

The Orange dominated in the third quarter putting up eight goals and holding the Raiders to one.

Syracuse returns to the Dome for their third game of the season this Friday against Manhattan at 4 p.m.
