The Good, Bad, and Ugly: Tennessee at South Carolina Gamecocks
Tennessee participated in the second-to-last game of the regular season in college basketball. Their opponents of the night were the South Carolina Gamecocks, who defeated the Volunteers earlier on in the season in what felt like a bit of an upset. The Tennessee Vols were seeking revenge and a chance to be the lone SEC Champions for the regular season, and they did just that! The regular season SEC Champions defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 66-59.
The Good
Aside from being named the SEC regular-season champs, the Tennessee Volunteers had plenty of good things. It starts with Dalton Knecht, of course. Per usual, the star transfer forward dropped over 20 points on the night, as he had 26 points. Jonas Aidoo flirted with a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, just one rebound off the annual achievement he causally hits a good portion of the time.
The Bad
The Vols struggled to put the Gamecocks away after giving them a few runs throughout the game. This was a bit off; if they could’ve put them away earlier, it would’ve eased the stress, forcing the Volunteers to hit key free throws.
The Ugly
The Volunteers used only eight players in this game, which isn’t going to work well when they get into foul trouble in certain games. Giving some other players more minutes will prepare them for situations more than they already are. I feel they should be using more players than they are. This isn’t the worst thing that could happen in the world of basketball, but this isn’t a great habit, especially as they enter the conference and national tournament soon.
