McCallie School safety Carson Lawrence has been committed to Vanderbilt since last summer, but the Vols have entered the picture in this recruitment after offering him in early February. Lawrence and the Blue Tornadoes won state last season against the Baylor Red Raiders. He measures 6-foot-2 and 194 pounds and ranks as the No. 715 prospect in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings.

The three-star athlete recently caught up with Volunteer Country following his Tennessee offer. "It was definitely exciting to get the Tennessee offer," Lawrence stated. "Especially growing up and being from Tennessee and watching them play as a kid. It's something you dream of as a Tennessee kid."

The offer was even more special considering who delivered it. "Coach [Josh] Heupel was the one who actually offered," Lawrence said. "The point was because he wanted to emphasize how much they're interested in him being the one offering me. Their pitch to me is that Tennessee is somewhere I can compete and come play at a high level and that I fit roles in their defense."

Lawrence talked more about his Tennessee offer and how that plays a factor in his current recruitment despite being committed to Vanderbilt. "Definitely a bigger one now that they've offered." Lawrence was teammates with Tennessee defensive line signee Carson Gentle and Syracuse corner signee Marcellus Barnes. His teammate, 2026 wide receiver Keeyshawn Schneider, also received an offer from Tennessee around the same time. Tennessee has made a point of recruiting and keeping their in-state guys in the state.
