The University of Connecticut football team received an early Christmas gift in December. Mammoth 6-foot-6, 334-pound offensive lineman Ben Murawski committed to the UConn team via Twitter, expressing excitement to get to work as the UConn team looks to bounce back from their 1-11 season.

Murawski started playing football when he was seven years old. After almost a decade of not playing the game, he fell in love with the game his freshman year of high school. Murawski played varsity football during his junior and senior years. He then transferred to St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Connecticut and the game became “more natural” to him.

The COVID-19 pandemic has played a huge role in his athletic career. The Harleysville native only had five games under his belt during the pandemic and no chance at playoffs. After transferring, he was able to bounce back from the lack of games to play a spring season.

Now, Murawski is ready to hit the field again. This time, under the coaching direction of Jim L. Mora and his newly minted staff. Murawski was a varsity starter for basketball in his junior year and football in his senior year of high school and a team captain at St. Thomas More. He was also elected to the First Team All-Conference and All-Area selection in football. The talent and skills he developed at St. Thomas More propelled him to the University of Connecticut, where he fell in love with everything about the school.

“I chose the University of Connecticut because when I went on my official visit, I fell in love with the school. The facilities, the dorms and the people,” Murawski said. “I am looking forward to playing football and getting to know the guys from the team. Also, I am looking forward to school and being a great student athlete.”
