STORRS, Conn. – UConn Director of Cross Country and Track & Field announced the team's elected captains for the 2022 season. Seniors (Wayzata, Minn.), (Upper Marlboro, Md.), (Toms River, N.J.) and (Norwalk, Conn.) will lead this year's squad.

Torney and Van Der Els are both returning captains after being elected last spring and helping lead the Huskies to the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in record-breaking fashion.

Torney was an NCAA Championship qualifier in the decathlon last spring after claiming gold at the BIG EAST Championship in the event. Torney is the defending IC4A heptathlon champion dating back to the 2020 indoor season. Van Der Els was an All-BIG EAST performer last spring after earning bronze in the 5000 meters outdoors. At the 2020 AAC Indoor Championship, Van Der Els won the gold in the mile.

Grosse was an All-BIG EAST performer last spring in the decathlon, finishing second to his teammate at the outdoor title meet. Hackett earned All-BIG EAST honors last spring as well, helping the Huskies to the team title by finishing with the silver as part of UConn's 4x100 relay team.

The Huskies return to action this weekend at the URI Invite on Saturday.
