North Carolina will tip off the college basketball ranked ninth in the Associated Press Top 25.

Released Monday afternoon, the poll included Carolina for a record 917th time and 101st consecutive week.

The Tar Heels' appearance at No. 9 marks the 57th season that they've reached the AP Top 25's top 10, finishing there in each of the past four seasons. 

Last season, Carolina was No. 8 in the preseason poll and ranked third in the final poll.

Fellow ACC programs Duke (No. 4), Louisville (No. 5) and Virginia (No. 11) also made the rankings, while Florida State, N.C. State, Notre Dame and Syracuse were among teams receiving votes.

Michigan State was the overwhelming choice at No. 1, receiving 60 of 65 votes, followed by Kentucky and Kansas, who also received votes for the top spot.

In addition to Carolina's ACC opponents, Gonzaga (No. 8) and Ohio State (No. 18) also appear on the Tar Heels' schedule, while No. 12 Seton Hall and No. 15 Oregon are possible opponents at the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Carolina is set to scrimmage Villanova on Sunday before playing host to Winston-Salem State in an exhibition game on Nov. 1.

The Tar Heels open the regular season on Nov. 6 when they play host to the Irish in a matchup that will air on ACC Network.
