North Carolina football head coach Mack Brown and his coaching staff are continuing to add targets in the 2024 recruiting class.

UNC extended an offer to Carlos Mitchell on Wednesday. The rising senior is a two-way athlete at Lake Wales High School in Lake Wales, Florida. According to 247 sports, Mitchell is a three-star and the 43rd-best athlete prospect in the country.

On offense, Mitchell plays the slot receiver and running back positions. He has elite explosiveness and speed which allows him to take quick passes to the house and blow the top off of defenses on deep balls. Last season, Mitchell caught 28 passes for 815 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Defensively, Mitchell is a cornerback and safety with great eyes and ball skills who isn't afraid to make contact in the run game. He recorded 81 tackles, 17 pass breakups and eight interceptions (four returned for touchdowns) during his junior year.

His ability to burst past defenders also makes him a threat when returning kickoffs and punts. In 2022, he had three touchdowns on special teams, including two punt returns and a kickoff return.

Throughout his high school career, Mitchell has been a playmaker, picking up numerous other Power Five offers from Purdue, West Virginia, Nebraska, Kentucky and Penn State.

Should he choose UNC, Mitchell will join Khalil Conley as the second class of 2024 athlete (position) to commit to the program. By the start of the 2024 season, the Tar Heels will probably need more help in their defensive secondary with Giovanni Biggers, Don Chapman, Derrik Allen and Armani Chatman being seniors or graduate players this coming year.

Will UNC land Mitchell?
