As spring practice rolls on, players are starting to make a name for themselves and push their names into starting role contention for the upcoming season, and that's exactly what Georgia Tech transfer Kenan Johnson is doing.

In his most recent post-practice interview, Coach Whittingham praised Johnson, saying "He's been making plays since day one" after he snagged an impressive diving interception off Cam Rising. It seems as if the transfer CB has made an impact play during every outing and is making it hard not to put him in a starting role come week one.

The 6'1" 183-pound DB out of Minneola, Florida racked up 29 total tackles, 3 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception during the 2023 season with the Yellow Jackets and his ball hawking skill set is translating well with Morgan Scalley's increased focus on turnovers.

With Kenan Johnson and Tao Johnson coming into their own under the new-look Utah defense, the 2024 season could very well produce the best defensive back unit the team has ever had. Also, the development of the unit as a whole but those two in particular spells for a strong continuation in the Utes DB to NFL pipeline that has produced some of the best in the league in Marcus Williams, Julian Blackmon, and of course Jaylon Johnson.
