Runnin' Utes Cruise Past VCU to reach the NIT Semifinals

The Runnin' Utes are runnin' to the Hinkle Fieldhouse to play Indiana State after easing past VCU
in Branden Carlson's last home game to reach the NIT semifinals.

For the Utes, Gabe Madsen came through in the scoring column, going 6/13 from the field and 0/1 from the line for 18 points, leading the team in that department. Meanwhile, Deivon Smith recorded his 5th triple double of the season, which saw his name at the top of the rebound column
and assists column, grabbing 11 boards and dishing out 12 dimes, with a cool 15 points on the side. Branden Carlson also balled out in his final game at the Huntsman, putting up 17 points on a 7/13 night.

For VCU, Sean Bairstow was the top scorer, going 6/14 from the field and 1/1 from the line for 16 points. Christian Fermin was the Ram's leading glass eater, grabbing 9 boards while Joe Bamisile led the team in assists with 2.

The Utes dominated in the shooting department, going 44.4% from the field and 39.4% from range, while the Rams shot at a 32.8% clip from the field and only a19.2% clip from beyond the arc. Utah also had the advantage on the glass, accumulating almost 10 more rebounds than VCU.

Next up for the Utes is a chance to head to the NIT Championship as they will face off against Indiana State in the tournament semifinals on April, 2nd.
