WVU, Cincinnati Set to Meet in the Opening Round of the Big 12 Championship

The Mountaineers and the Bearcats scheduled for the third time this season

The West Virginia Mountaineers finished last in the Big 12 Conference and will meet the 11th seed Cincinnati Bearcats Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 EST with the action streaming on ESPN+ at the T-Mobile Event Center in Kansas City.

West Virginia and Cincinnati split the season series with the home team coming away victorious in both matchups.

The Mountaineers won the initial meeting in Morgantown 69-65 while Cincinnati hammered West Virginia in the final game of the season 92-56. WVU senior center Jesse Edwards produced a double double, scoring 25 points and hauling in 10 rebounds in the first game but was limited to eight points in the rematch while junior forward Simas Lukošius was consistent in both games, putting in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

West Virginia met Cincinnati in the 2010 Big East tournament and came away with a 54-51 win, highlighted by forward Da'Sean Butler's game-winning three-pointer as time expired before rattling off two more wins in consecutive nights towards the program's first Big East Championship.

West Virginia is 10-10 all-time in the Big 12 Championship, with three appearances in the championship game.
