WVU Receives Votes in AP Poll

Morgantown, WV - The West Virginia Football team received three votes in the Associated Press Poll on Monday afternoon. This puts them tied at 42nd in the country along with the University of Alabama Birmingham, Oklahoma State, and Arizona State.

This doesn’t come as too much as a surprise after receiving 24 votes in the coaches poll at the beginning of August, placing them 39th.

However, the Mountaineers receiving votes in both polls does come as somewhat of a surprise, after losing most of their production on both sides of the ball from last season and a new coaching staff.

This could be attributed to the winning pedigree of newly hired head coach Neal Browns and/or Oklahoma transfer quarterback Austin Kendall.

West Virginia currently has three ranked teams on their schedule. No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 10 Texas and No. 21 Iowa State.

There is potential for more ranked opponents in the upcoming season with TCU and Oklahoma State receiving votes in both polls and Baylor getting four votes in the coaches poll. North Carolina State is receiving votes in the coaches poll as well but wins over East Carolina and Western Carolina probably won’t get them in the top 25.
