Recently, the West Virginia coaching staff extended an offer to class of 2020 offensive tackle Patrick Barnett of Key West, Florida. Barnett committed to the University of Central Florida in June, but is still keeping his recruitment open. When Barnett was asked about his offer, he said he was “shocked” and it caught him off guard.

Barnett also informed SI West Virginia that he has a mentor who coaches at his high school (Key West) and coached at West Virginia, Jerry Hughes. Hughes was the Defensive Ends coach at West Virginia from 1991-1992.

Barnett added that he really likes West Virginia’s program and the fan-base. He also shared that offensive line coach Matt Moore sent him the offer and is looking to build his relationship with him.

“I think moving forward it can be great” Barnett says when asked about his offer. Barnett is still undecided about visiting campus any time soon.

He also holds offers from Illinois, Stetson, Middle Tennessee State, University of Central Florida, and Florida State. Barnett also says he does not have any dates planned to visit West Virginia as of now, but if he gets the chance, he will make the trek to Morgantown.
