In a couple of trailers released today, NetherRealm Studios revealed a massive glut of new fighters for the soon to come game. In the previews we got a look at the two fighters from the base game, Li Mei and Tanya, and a number of DLC fighters. Included in the DLC “Kombat Pack” are a number of characters from other IP’s including Homelander from “The Boys”.

Speculation of the MK1 roster has been rampant since the initial reveal of the game earlier this summer with a number of leaks hitting the wire in weeks past. But keeping with MK11’s DLC direction, NRS showed us three characters from some very interesting tv shows. In this group, we got to see three characters from outside of the MK universe in Omni-Man (Invincible), Peacemaker (of HBO’s Peacemaker) and Homelander. These three are all central characters in ultra-violent, subversive takes on the superhero genre so they should feel right at home in MK.

This also could give us some idea on where NRS could be taking their future DLC focusing more on contemporary guest characters as opposed to 80’s & 90’s era heroes. Alongside those three were MK returnees, Quan Chi, Ermac and Takahashi Takeda. These three were all omissions from MK11 so their return should be met with some fanfare.

What are the Kombat Pack 1 Characters for Mortal Kombat 1?

  • Homelander
  • Quan-Chi
  • Omni-Man
  • Peacemaker
  • Ermac
  • Takeda

In the other trailer, we got to get our first look at Li Mei, Tanya and Baraka. This trailer gave us more insight into some of the story beats of MK1. Li Mei and Tayna function as Umgadi, protectors of Outworld’s (new) princess Mileena. Li Mei seems to have been ostracized from the group for some reason as Tanya scolds her for past failures. In a major departure from the previous canon, Mileena isn’t half-Tarkatan (the same race as Baraka). Instead, there seems to be a disease or curse that turns Outworlders into Tarkatans and Mileena seems to be infected by it. Lastly, we see Baraka leading a group of the Tarkatans into a scrap with a quick cut to some of his gameplay.

With this new trailer, we now have the confirmed characters at launch as:

  • Liu Kang
  • Johnny Cage
  • Mileena
  • Kitana
  • Li Mei
  • Baraka
  • Tanya
  • Kenshi
  • Raiden
  • Kung Lao
  • Sub-Zero
  • Scorpion
