What are the effects of Amulet Coin and how to get it in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the Amulet Coin can drastically increase how much money a player can earn, this is due to its effect of doubling any prize money received as long as the holder joins the battle at least once.

The Amulet Coin can be unlocked in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet through the Battle League Rep NPC found at the East Medali Pokécenter. As with all Battle League Reps scattered along Paldea, you may receive a reward after battling a certain amount of NPC trainers in the nearby area - in this case, you must find and defeat five NPC Trainers in Area Three of the West Province and then speak again with Rep to receive their Amulet Coin item.

How to use the Amulet Coin to make infinite money in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

In the early stages of the game, prize money from battles is not quite relevant if your goal is to buy items to fully train your Pokémon however the end-game is where the Amulet Coin truly shines. Here is how you can make infinite money by using it:

First, progress enough through the game’s main storyline to unlock the Academy Ace Tournament, which consists of four consecutive trainer battles. The first time you clear this challenge the trainers will be set all further attempts will have random trainers face you.

After unlocking the Academy Ace Tournament you must train one Pokémon that can clear all four battles with ease. Although you may do this with a variety of different Pokémon we recommend that you build one of the following:

Sylveon

  • Nature: Modest (Special Attack Up, Attack Down)
  • EV Spread: Special Attack 252, Speed 252 Defense 4
  • Ability: Pixilate
  • Held Item: Amulet Coin
  • Necessary moves:
    • Hyper Voice

Chi-Yu

  • Nature: Modest (Special Attack Up, Attack Down)
  • EV Spread: Special Attack 252, Speed 252 Defense 4
  • Ability: Beads of Ruin
  • Held Item: Amulet Coin
  • Necessary moves:
    • Dark Pulse

With your carry Pokémon on hand, all you need to do is start Academy Ace Tournament and simply keep pressing the A button - as long you have no other Pokémon in your party and the mentioned moves on the first slot your Pokémon will be able to defeat all of your opponents. This method will grant you $108,240 per run.

An additional step to speed up your earnings is through the use of the newly added Hisuian Zoroark, by having it use Happy Hour once during the battle you will be able to get an additional $117,360 totaling $225,600 per run. After only four runs you will be able to hit the maximum amount of money allowed in the game!
