Shelden Williams Breaks Down How Jon Scheyer Inspires Current Duke Blue Devils

Is it enough?

During a fresh episode of his podcast Bleav In Duke, Blue Devil-turned-journeyman NBA pro Shelden Williams relayed to cohost Stephen Wiseman of The News & Observer how he's feeling about the way second-year head coach Jon Scheyer is motivating his current crop of players.

"I don't think I ever questioned their age or the toughness. I just question, you know, certain players' consistency," Williams said.

"With Flint being consistent and Proctor being consistent now Mark Mitchell, who's now coming on a little bit later... Have those guys been consistent throughout the whole season?" Williams asked rhetorically. "I think [Duke] would be a far better team, far further along as well."

"[Scheyer] knows his team. He knows how to get them kind of revved up and things like that too, and a win and so on," Williams said. "A little bit with that, the Wake Forest game was a tough game for us to actually win and to do it at home, so I thought that was pretty good. Hofer got carried over to Fort State."

The Atlantic Coast staple is currently 20-5 overall this season (11-3 in its conference) on the year.

Scheyer, who won a title under longtime Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski in 2015 as a spark plug combo guard, finally took the reigns of the program in 2022 after the latter retired. He boasts a stellar 46-14 record thus far in his not-quite-two seasons in charge.
