Chris Hogan Believes Patriots Should Target Baker Mayfield in Free Agency

Chris Hogan breaks down the QB need for the New England Patriots, and how they should look to pending FA Baker Mayfield.

The New England Patriots have a glaring hole in their quarterback position, and they should look to free agency to fill that hole. Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe are definitely not the answer, and though they could draft UNC's Drake Maye with pick #3, they need a veteran presence.

One of those veteran players the Patriots should target is Baker Mayfield, who was not franchise-tagged by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chris Hogan details why Mayfield should be on the Patriots list on this week's The Patriots Report.

"In your mind, does this change the thinking at all for New England and maybe make Marvin Harrison more of a priority for a team like the Patriots that's in need of a true impact receiver? Or is this still the quarterback at number three? That's the focus. That's where they're headed."

Christopher Price begins by asking if Hogan thinks the Patriots should draft Marvin Harrison Jr. at #3, who is arguably the best WR in the draft. However, Hogan states that the QB situation needs to be addressed.

Again, adding Maye is the obvious choice, but the team needs a veteran. Mayfield could be a solid addition to the team.

"The quarterback obviously has to be addressed. You know, I've seen a bunch of different things out there, free agents that we could be possibly targeting at the quarterback position...I will add and that's the one [Mayfield] that I was going to reference was, you know, he played great last year and he is a from everything that you read from last year. Right. From everything that that kid has gone through in his whole career. He's a locker room guy. He's got a lot of energy, he's matured a ton. And he's going to go out there and he's going to play his frickin ass off."

Hogan states what the entire NFL-loving world knows. Mayfield turned his career around with the Bucs, and he should be a viable starter for many teams. He logged 4,044, 28 TDs, and 10 INTs.

Mayfield was not franchise-tagged, and the cutoff has come and gone. The Patriots along with many teams are likely to attempt to bring in Mayfield.
