Corey Wootton on Bears Selecting Caleb Williams #1, "He's Coming Into a Better Situation Than Justin Fields"

Corey Wootton comments on Justin Fields getting sent to the Steelers, and how Caleb Williams is facing a better situation than Fields did.

The Chicago Bears traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, ultimately signifying that they are taking USC's Caleb Williams with the #1 overall pick. While people might have viewed Fields as the better option, he can revitalize his career while learning from Russell Wilson.

Corey Wootton discusses how Fields being sent to the Steelers is benefits him, but also that this Bears team being rebuilt is going to serve Williams far better.

"I think it is a great situation for Justin where he gets to learn behind Russell Wilson, who's been the adamant pro throughout his time there. So it's unbelievable that he'll be able to learn from him and potentially be able to play maybe what kind of package they have for him. But I think it's a great situation for Justin. You thought it could have worked out in Chicago, especially with the way they were building this roster, you know, adding Keenan now. And you know, what we're going to do in the draft, potentially trading back and addressing some offensive line and defensive line issues. You thought Shane Waldron could revamp his career like you did for Geno Smith."

Fields gave his heart to the Bears, but it was just a situation that soured over time. Talent like Williams does not come around very often, so it's not at all shocking that Chicago is going to draft him.

Fields will not get to see the benefit of the pieces added to up the roster like WR Keenan Allen and TE Gerald Everett, but he will get to learn from Russell Wilson.

"But ultimately, you know, the writing was on the wall. Caleb Williams is looking like that for sure number onepick. I know he's coming into a better situation than Justin Fields. I know they're trying to surround him with talent, so I think it's it's a recipe for literally any quarterback you have coming in, whether it's a rookie or a free agent or somewhere, you want to surround them with talent."

The Bears have been adamant about adding talent, like the aforementioned former Chargers players. The organization truly believes in Williams, and he could come into a team that is stacked with talent who can immediately compete in the NFC.
