Phil Simms Breaks Down Why Caleb Williams is a True #1 Pick

Phil Simms continues his breakdown of NFL Draft QBs, this time focusing on USC's Caleb Williams.

No draft pick is more controversial and highly touted than USC's Caleb Williams. Williams is said to be the #1 overall pick, which is for big reasons. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and nearly won the award in the 2023 season.

Many believe Williams to be one of the most exciting prospects that college has produced, and he ruffled some feathers by not throwing during the NFL Combine. Still, his athleticism is well known and Phil Simms broke down his play on the newest Simms Complete.

"Caleb Williams is going to be the first pick. It's not going to be Jayden Daniels. And, you know, I'm not going to get into saying negative things about Jayden. It's not C.J. Stroud. C.J. Stroud. What, man? He had one of the most flexible arms you'll ever see. And that's why he has all that power. So that separates him."

Simms revealed that the comparison between Jayden Daniels and C.J. Shroud is known, but a powerful arm isn't the only thing that Williams possesses.

"But Caleb Williams has a special arm. He can do all the things we've already talked about."

Williams has been given plenty of praise for his ability to create plays from nothing. While he gets into trouble by holding the ball for too long, he is a mobile QB who can throw the ball downfield like nobody else.

Williams is projected at #1 overall simply because of his innate ability to be a dual-threat QB with a rocket arm.

Simms has been breaking down the QB play of the top prospects in the league. He began with North Carolina's Drake Maye and what makes Maye not the best of the top QBs.

He followed that up with LSU's Jayden Daniels, who he believes is similar to Joe Burrow. He continues that by evaluating Williams in this week's episode. Simms is a legendary QB who has a good eye for talent, and he might be dead on with all his assessments.
