Steve Kerr Gives Update On Draymond Green's Knee Injury

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr gave an update on Draymond Green's knee injury prior to Sunday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

UPDATE (2/27/23) at 4:17 p.m. ET: Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says MRI came back clean on Draymond Green's knee. He is considered questionable for Tuesday's game.

Injuries have hit the Golden State Warriors hard this season and they continue to cause problems for the defending NBA champions.

Entering Sunday night's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Warriors were without Andre Iguodala, Gary Payton II, Stephen Curry, who is recovering from a lower left leg injury, and Andrew Wiggins, who is out due to a family matter and personal reasons.

Missing their prior game against the Houston Rockets, Draymond Green also missed Sunday's game due to a right knee contusion. Luckily enough for the Warriors, they were able to come away with a much-needed 109-104 victory over the Timberwolves, without Green being available, to maintain their spot in the Western Conference standings.

Long-term though and looking at the rest of the season, Golden State is going to need Draymond Green, who is the heart-and-soul of this team, healthy in order to have a chance at defending their NBA championship from a season ago.

Ahead of Sunday's game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to the media and gave an update on Green's knee injury.

"It flared up today, so he will be more thoroughly checked out by our medical staff," Kerr said. "It was sort of unexpected. The way he went through treatment yesterday looked good and everything was good and he had a setback today. We'll learn more today and we will have more for you tomorrow."

As far as what is next for Draymond, Kerr did say that he would likely undergo an MRI just to make sure that there was nothing more serious going on.

Playing in 53 of the team's 61 total games this season, Green has averaged 8.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor. He has also managed to average 1.0 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.

Known for his defensive intensity and ability to run the Warriors offense, Draymond Green is extremely important to the success of this franchise. Golden State really needs him on the floor, especially with Curry and Wiggins out, if they are to make a push to avoid the Play-In Tournament this season.

Further updates on Green's injury and whether or not he will miss any more time will likely revealed by the Warriors ahead of their next game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
