BREAKING: San Antonio Spurs Reportedly Release 6-Year NBA Veteran /

UPDATE: The San Antonio Spurs have officially waived Khem Birch.

Khem Birch is coming off a year where he appeared in 20 regular season games for the Toronto Raptors.

The 31-year-old averaged 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 59.4% from the field.

Last season, Birch was traded to the San Antonio Spurs, and Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that he is now being waived.

Via Charania: "The San Antonio Spurs are waiving center Khem Birch, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Birch has averaged 5 points and 4.4 rebounds over six NBA seasons."

Over six seasons in the NBA, Birch has played for the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors.

His career averages are 5.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest while shooting 52.0% from the field in 282 regular season games (he has also appeared in 16 NBA playoff games).

Birch has also played 70 regular season games in the G League and has career averages of 12.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.0 blocks per contest while shooting 66.5% from the field.

Since Birch has good experience, he could be an excellent addition to many teams once he clears waivers.

The 2023-24 regular season will begin on October 24, so he will be a name to watch.

As for the Spurs, they are coming off a year where they were the 15th seed in the Western Conference with a 22-60 record (they missed the NBA playoffs for the fourth straight season).

The Spurs will play their first game on October 25 when they host the Dallas Mavericks.
