Russell Westbrook Is 60 Assists Away From NBA History

Russell Westbrook is 60 assists away from moving past Isiah Thomas on the all-time assists list.

Russell Westbrook is one of the greatest players in NBA history and has achieved many milestones over his future first-ballot Hall of Fame career.

The 2017 MVP is now closing in on another accomplishment, as he is just 60 assists away from passing Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas on the all-time assists list

Westbrook is currently tenth with 9,002 assists, while Thomas is ninth with 9,061 assists.

Currently, the nine-time NBA All-Star is averaging 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.0 steals per contest in 52 games this season.

He was recently traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz, but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that he has been bought out of his contract and will now sign with the Los Angeles Clippers

Based on his current averages, Westbrook should be able to pass Thomas in the next eight games.

The other eight people in front of him on the list are Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, Mark Jackson, Steve Nash, LeBron James, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd and John Stockton.

Westbrook was not a good fit for the Lakers, but joining the Clippers could be an excellent decision for his career.

The Clippers are the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 33-28 record in 61 games.

In addition, he has played with Paul George (for two seasons on the Oklahoma City Thunder), and the Clippers needed a point guard after moving on from John Wall and Reggie Jackson.

Prior to the Lakers, Westbrook had stints with the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets (and Thunder).
