Jordan Poole Texted New Washington Wizards Teammate

Bilal Coulibaly shared that Jordan Poole sent him a text after he was selected with the seventh pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Last week, the 2023 NBA Draft took place at Barclays Center, and the Washington Wizards selected Bilal Coulibaly with the seventh overall pick (via a trade with the Indiana Pacers).

Coulibaly is an 18-year-old who played in France for Metropolitans 92.

The Wizards have been one of the most active teams in the NBA since the offseason began, as they have pulled off a handful of trades.

One of their biggest deals is the reported trade that will send future Hall of Famer Chris Paul (who they acquired from the Phoenix Suns) to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for a package that includes 2022 NBA Champion Jordan Poole.

Poole is coming off a regular season where he averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per contest while shooting 43.0% from the field and playing in all 82 games.

When Coulibaly met with the media following the Draft, he shared that Poole had already reached out by sending him a text message.

Reporter: "Have you been able to reach out and talk to any of your new teammates, and what have they said to you?"

Coulibaly: "After Draft night, Jordan Poole sent me a text, just welcome to D.C., can't wait to start working and playing with you.”

Before notably struggling in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, Poole had been regarded as one of the best young players in the league.

Next season, he will begin the first year of a four-year contract, which will pay him $128 million.

The Wizards have missed the postseason in each of the last two years.
