Recent Los Angeles Lakers Player Signs With New Team

Wenyen Gabriel, who most recently played for the Lakers and Grizzlies, has signed with a team in Puerto Rico.

UPDATE: Wenyen Gabriel is still playing for the Grizzlies, so it's likely that he will join Vaqueros de Bayamón once his 10-day contract ends. 

Wenyen Gabriel recently played in two games for the Memphis Grizzlies after signing a 10-day contract. 

He averaged 4.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 50.0% from the field. 

On Monday, Vaqueros de Bayamón, a team in Puerto Rico, announced that they had signed Gabriel (h/t Alberto De Roa of HoopsHype).

We officially announce that Enebeist centre back Wenyen Gabriel will be our first reinforcement to start the season. 🤠🙌🏼"

Gabriel played his college basketball for Kentucky and went undrafted in 2018.  

Over part of five seasons, he has played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets.  

His career averages are 4.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 53.1% from the field and 31.4% from the three-point range in 147 regular season games. 

Last season, Gabriel was a key role player on the Lakers and averaged 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 59.6% from the field and 27.8% from the three-point range in 68 games (two starts).  

The Lakers were the seventh seed in the Western Conference and reached the Conference Finals after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors in the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs. 

He appeared in ten playoff games.

Gabriel is only 26, so he could end up returning to the NBA at some point soon.
