The start of the 2023 Formula One season has been disappointing for Ferrari, with only 26 points tallied over the first three races. But despite the struggles and bad luck, Charles Leclerc has returned to Azerbaijan with a pole position finish at today's qualifying. And to whack the cherry on top of the day, Ferrari chief Fred Vasseur has confirmed that the Monegasque will be staying with the team.

Leclerc, who is in his fourth season with Ferrari, has yet to have a car that can compete for the championship. Despite this, he signed a long-term contract with the team until 2024. This is now only a single year away, and because of this, rumours of him moving to another team have been rife.

But with Leclerc's confidence in the team erupting after a great Friday at Baku, Vasseur has commented on these rumours, stating that he is "confident" that Leclerc will remain with the Scuderia.

"I'm confident in that for sure, you don't have to be focused on the last two races. We want to build up something with our drivers. I always said that drivers are key in a project and that you have to build up the team around them. And it's what we are doing today."

While most rumors have suggested that Leclerc may be considering a move to Mercedes, Vasseur was clear that the Monegasque driver is committed to the Ferrari project.

"Charles confirmed yesterday that he wants to be world champion with Ferrari," Vasseur told the press.
