F1 fans have been calling for four-time champion Sebastian Vettel to make an iconic return to the sport.

Vettel announced during the 2022 season that he would be heading into retirement at the end of the year and fans have been missing him from the grid since.

Two-time champion Fernando Alonso has taken Vettel's place on the Aston Martin team alongside Lance Stroll and has been having an extremely successful start to the year finishing in third place for the first three races so far.

Taking to social media, Vettel shared some throwback photos, writing:

"Note to myself: YOU SHOULD BE WORKING!!!"

It would warm so many fans hearts to see Vettel and Alonso racing alongside Lewis Hamilton once again, leading many to call for the German driver to make a return to the track. One fan commented:

"Come back Seb. please. We miss you"

Another fan called for him to return for his 300th race, writing:

"Return for the 300th race Seb"

Vettel made his F1 debut in 2006 and had his rookie season in 2007 with the Toro Rosso team. After just two season, he was promoted to Red Bull where he drove from 2009 until 2014. During his time at the Austrian, Vettel won four consecutive championships.

Moving on from Red Bull, Vettel made the move to Ferrari for the 2015 season before moving to Aston Martin in 2021.

Fans got their hopes up at the beginning of the 2023 season when Lance Stroll suffered a broken wrist and toe. The Canadian driver was forced to miss pre-season testing but made a miraculous recovery to compete in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. Whilst there was a lot of doubt over Stroll's participation in Bahrain, many were calling for Vettel to step in last minute despite reserve driver Felipe Drugovich being ready to go.

Vettel has not made any announcements over what he will do next, so fans remain hopeful we will see him make a return to F1 in some capacity.
