F1 fans have been reliving the heart-warming moment Lewis Hamilton was gifted one of Ayrton Senna's race helmets by his family when the British driver met one of the Brazilian driver's records.

The moment has been shared by ESPN to Twitter with the caption:

"When Lewis Hamilton received a race-worn Ayrton Senna helmet as a gift from the family after equaling his hero's number of pole positions."

Growing up, Ayrton Senna was Hamilton's hero so it is not surprising that the Mercedes driver becomes overwhelmed when he is given the helmet, instantly dropping his water to the floor and being lost for words.

One fan responded to the video, comparing the moment to Michael Schumacher. They wrote:

"Seeing Michael and Lewis both get emotional when equaling a Senna record is so heartwarming. They're legends in their own rights but in the midst of reaching their statuses, their inner boyhood admiration for their heros came back"

Another fan commented:

"That was an emotional moment. If Ayrton was still here, he’d have been congratulating Lewis in person."

Someone else was clearly moved by the moment, commenting:

"Lewis so grateful,So emotional a beautiful moment to remember and appreciate brings tears to our eyes"

"Even the eloquent Lewis was speechless! It was such an honour to get the helmet from his hero!"

Senna is regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time and is also one of the most iconic names in the sport. Another F1 fan responded:

"No one compares to Senna, he was the soul of F1. It was as if god himself lived through him."
