F1 News: Charles Leclerc Retires From Dutch Grand Prix After Shocking Race

Charles Leclerc is out of the Dutch Grand Prix.

Charles Leclerc has been forced to retire from the Dutch Grand Prix on Lap 41.

The Monegasque driver has had a shocking race in Zandvoort. It all went downhill after the chaotic pit stop at the beginning of the race when the driver quickly came into the pits to switch to intermediate tyres but the team were not ready. Leclerc had to sit and wait for the team to get the tyres pushing him further down the grid.

Afterwards, Leclerc ran wide and over the gravel damaging his front wing so was forced to pit once again to replace it. As the race continued, the Ferrari driver was clearly struggling with further damage so the team decided to retire the car.

The Maranello-based squad has now confirmed that Leclerc was running with significant floor damage which is what led them to retire the car from the race.

Leclerc is the second driver to pull out of the race after Williams driver Logan Sargeant crashed earlier on, ending his race in Zandvoort as well.

Ferrari are now counting on Carlos Sainz to earn as many points as possible. The Spanish driver is currently running in fifth position.

This DNF is going to impact Leclerc significantly in the drivers' standings. Prior to the Dutch Grand Prix he was running in fifth position with 99 points followed by George Russell, also with 99 points, and Carlos Sainz with 92 points.
