With Daniel Ricciardo being out of the Dutch Grand Prix following his crash at turn 3 where he hit the barrier at high speed in second practice, causing him to break a metacarpal, former F1 driver David Coulthard claimed to send a PowerPoint presentation to Red Bull boss Christian Horner applying for the job of reserve driver at AlphaTauri.

The AlphaTauri driver avoided crashing into Oscar Piastri as he had a choice to "either him or the wall." He chose the barrier but didn't have enough time to take his hands off the steering wheel which hit his hand and caused the injury.

Picking the opportunity, Coulthard hilariously applied for the job of reserve driver addressing Horner, and even spoke about it publicly on his Instagram account. The convincing job application titled ‘Why I should be Daniel’s reserve driver’ read:

“Dear Christian Horner, please read my PowerPoint for why I should be Daniel’s reserve driver.

* I am quick on track

* I did get Red Bull’s first podium

* The engineers and I already get along

* This would make me the 7th oldest ever F1 driver"

This might have irked Horner but the boss decided to play along with Coulthard's joke by sending a savage reply to the 52-year-old racer. It read:

"Dear DC,

"Thank you for your application and despite the significant amount of crash damage at numerous races you created, we might now need a reserve and as the silver fox of the paddock, you would at least make Fernando Alonso feel young again.

"Best wishes Christian"

Unsurprisingly, Horner made the reply a public one by posting it on his Instagram account. Unfortunately for Coulthard, his application was rejected with the selection of Liam Lawson as reserve driver, who according to Red Bull is “one of the most prodigious talents." The 21-year-old racer will make his F1 debut at Zandvoort. He would also turn out to be Yuki Tsunoda's third teammate for this season.
