F1 News: Former Driver Urges Williams To Consider Liam Lawson For 2024

Liam Lawson has been catching attention while he performs reserve driver duties for AlphaTauri.

Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson has been gaining attention lately and former F1 driver Karun Chandhok believes Williams should seriously consider him for a seat in their F1 car alongside Alex Albon for 2024.

Lawson hopped into Daniel Ricciardo's seat after the AlphaTauri driver suffered a serious injury to his left Metacarpel during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend. Being Yuki Tsunoda's third teammate this season, the 21-year-old has put on a decent show in Formula 1 since his entry in Zandvoort.

During the Singapore GP weekend, Lawson made it to Q3 on a rather difficult track like the Marina Bay Street Circuit, overtaking his Red Bull seniors. On Sunday's Grand Prix Lawson secured P9 earning his first points, while teammate Tsunoda was forced to retire in the second lap.

The New Zealander's achievements have put him on AlphaTauri's radar for a full-time role for the next season. Not only that, with Logan Sargeant under pressure, Chandhok believes Williams should be looking at him too for a seat alongside Alex Albon.

The former F1 driver told Sky Sports F1:

“If I was Williams, I would definitely be looking at Liam Lawson.

"You’ve got to have the conversation, haven’t you? Because, you know, Albon’s out-qualified Sargeant on every occasion, he has had scored all the points so far for Williams.

"If you are Williams, you should be shopping around and Liam Lawson has put himself on the market in a very good way."

With Ricciardo's injury demanding time to heal after the surgery, Lawson would be performing his duty as usual this weekend at Suzuka, and maybe even during the Qatar Grand Prix on 8th October. He recently revealed to the press that as of now, he has no idea of his plans for 2024.
