F1 News: Max Verstappen Given Update On Smashed Hungarian GP Trophy After Awkward Lando Norris Moment

The Hungarian GP trophy is being re-made after it was accidentally smashed by Lando Norris.

In the moments after the Hungarian Grand Prix, the podium celebrations took an unforeseen twist. McLaren driver Lando Norris accidentally smashed Max Verstappen's trophy. Unfortunately for Norris, the trophy represented half a year of detailed craftsmanship by the esteemed Herend.

The Hungarian Grand Prix saw Verstappen take the coveted first position and Norris secure the second spot yet again. However, the euphoria was momentarily dampened during the podium festivities.

Herend, renowned for their intricate artistic creations, was the mastermind behind the original trophy. After the incident, they immediately embarked on the journey to reproduce this iconic piece. Sharing the progress with Formula.hu, Simon Attila, the guiding force behind Herend, stated:

"Production started in early August and painting and gilding work is currently underway. We will be ready by the end of September at the latest."

Post the incident, Norris didn't delay in conveying his regret for the inadvertent act. Responding with grace, Attila mentioned an open invitation to Norris to experience the magic behind the scenes at the Herend visitor centre. Although no formal communication has materialised about this visit, Attila highlighted:

"We have not had any communication with the team regarding Lando Norris' visit and are currently concentrating on refinishing the trophy."

Despite some initial backlash from fans after the incident, there was clearly no bad blood between the two drivers who are friends outside of the track as well as McLaren and Red Bull who were having fun with the funny moment on social media. McLaren CEO Zak Brown mocked Norris during the team photo after the race pretending to smash his trophy as well.

Formula One is currently on the summer break which will be ending with Verstappen's home race next weekend. The Dutch Grand Prix will be taking place on 25-27 August.
