F1 News: McLaren CEO Snubs Sergio Perez In Bold Red Bull Statement

Zak Brown believes that F1 would've been more competitive if it had "two Sergios."

A bold statement came in from McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown who believes the Formula One "championship would kind of be wide open" if Red Bull had "two Sergios" instead of one Max Verstappen and one Sergio Perez.

Hinting at the Verstappen's brutal domination that is currently untouchable by any driver or team, Brown feels that achieving the first position for anybody would be extremely difficult. The Dutch driver leads the championship by 125 points over teammate Sergio Perez in second position and is on the way to achieving his third title.

However, in the case of Perez, he is currently second in the drivers' standings by 40 points over Fernando Alonso in third. Brown feels that the second place is more achievable because of Perez and hence mentions that the first place could have been within reach if it had another Sergio Perez on top.

Red Bull - Max Verstappen

He says this after McLaren has upped its game since the introduction of a major upgrade package in Austria and saw Lando Norris secure two, second places.

Speaking to ESPN, he said:

"As much as Red Bull's killing everyone right now... it's really Max is killing everyone right now.

"That Max, Red Bull combination is just unbeatable at the moment and Max and the team isn't making any mistakes.

"If they had two Sergios in the car, with all due respect, this championship would kind of be wide open. So you've got something pretty special going on with Max and Red Bull.

"If you take Max out of it and take everyone who's finished second this year and give them a win, it would be a pretty competitive, exciting championship.

"We've had a second, Aston's had a second, Ferrari's had a second, Mercedes has had a second, Sergio's had a second. You would have five teams that would have won a race this year.

"As soon as we all catch up to Red Bull I think that's going to be the state of play for Formula 1."
