It seems that Lewis Hamilton's recent comments have ruffled a few feathers in the Formula 1 world. The seven-time world champion has come under fire from former F1 champ Damon Hill, who has accused him of sending "mixed messages" about his support for Mercedes.

Hamilton had previously expressed his frustration with the team's development of the car, saying they "didn't listen" to him, adding that "this isn't the right car." However, in a more recent interview, he has tried to backtrack on his words, admitting they "probably weren't the best choice."

Hill seems to be in agreement, claiming that you can't criticize and be "100 percent supportive" at the same time. It seems that even the most successful drivers in the world can't avoid a bit of constructive criticism.

“(There were) mixed messages," Hill told the F1 Nation podcast.

"After the race, he said ‘We’ve got work to do but I am supportive’. Then he said ‘I did warn them, I told them I didn’t like the car’.

“Well, you can’t criticise and be 100 per cent supportive."

But that's not the only issue plaguing the F1 world at the moment. Hill also highlighted the problem of online abuse towards team members of the Mercedes camp, with some fans blaming them for not giving Hamilton the car he wants. It's a tricky situation to be in, as being a famous driver brings with it a lot of loyalty from fans, but not necessarily towards the team as a whole.

So, what's next for Hamilton and Mercedes? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure - the pressure is on, and there's no room for mistakes. The driver has confirmed that he will be staying with the team, and with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix just around the corner, Hamilton will need to bring his A-game if he wants to push further up the grid. Let's hope he can put the recent drama behind him and focus on the race ahead.
