Max Verstappen Comments On Relationship with Lewis Hamilton: "One of the Greatest Drivers"
Dutch racing driver and current Formula One World Champion, Max Verstappen, has opened up about his relationship with his F1 rival, Lewis Hamilton, claiming that it is “quite straightforward” despite their headline-making clashes in the past.
As two of the most talented drivers of their generation, Verstappen and Hamilton have had a fierce rivalry on the track, with their battle for the 2021 title making headlines around the world. However, Verstappen has downplayed suggestions that their relationship is difficult, stating that they have a lot of respect for each other.

Verstappen and Hamilton’s rivalry reached a boiling point in 2021, with the two drivers clashing on several occasions. Their battle came to a dramatic end in Abu Dhabi when Verstappen benefited from a controversial decision by race control to overtake Hamilton on the final lap, securing the win and the championship.
Despite their intense rivalry, Verstappen and Hamilton have never shied away from praising each other’s skills as drivers. In fact, Verstappen has repeatedly referred to Hamilton as one of the greatest drivers of all time.
Verstappen’s Take on His Relationship with Hamilton
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Verstappen spoke candidly about his relationship with his rivals, including Hamilton. When asked about Hamilton, Verstappen was quick to emphasise that they do not have a difficult relationship. The two-time champion explained:
“I don’t think we have a difficult relationship at all. It’s just that with others you have a closer relationship. It depends to an extent on how you live your life, and perhaps we are not similar in that regard.”
Verstappen went on to reiterate his admiration for Hamilton’s talent, calling him “one of the greatest drivers ever.” He continued:
“He has stood up when he needed to and made the difference. Consistency is his key, and staying on top of his game. That is not so hard when you are so talented; it doesn’t take a lot of effort to do that. The way he has managed his championships is very impressive.”
Verstappen’s comments make it clear that despite their past clashes, he and Hamilton have a mutual respect for each other’s abilities on the track.
