The FIA have confirmed that Max Verstappen's Red Bull RB19 has had to have a new gearbox ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix qualifying session in just under an hour.

The Belgian-Dutch driver has topped the timesheets in all three of the free practice sessions, which he seemed to sail through. However, there have clearly been some issues under the surface resulting in the team making a last minute change.

According to the letter from the FIA to the Stewards:

"The gearbox case and cassette used by Max Verstappen is one of the four new gearbox cases and cassettes allowed for the 2023 Championship season."

There has not been any announcements from the Austrian team with more details surrounding this at the moment, however, we expect to hear more as qualifying gets under way.

Qualifying is expected to be close this afternoon with Red Bull and Aston Martin showing fantastic pace during the free practice sessions and Ferrari anticipated to have been sandbagging.

Here is how to watch the qualifying session.
